Jordan Yankov Hristov, PhD Bulgaria

Professor Jordan Yankov Hristov was born in Dupnitza town on 7th September, 1954. Professor Jordan Yankov Hristov has graduated from Electrical Engineering (Measurements), Technical University- Sofia in 1979 Professor Hristov is working at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy from Sofia. Just after his graduation he was ordered to work (36 years ago this was the state system in Bulgaria) in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology (now University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy) . In 1998 he was promoted to the associate professor position and in January 2014 as a professor of Chemical Engineering. The main research area developed more than 30 years was the fluidization, especially, external field effects (magnetic or electric) for controlling the bed hydrodynamics and consequently the performed heat and mass transfer operations. Working intensively in this field he has obtained his Ph. D degree in 1994 in Chemical Engineering with a thesis titled Gas fluidization of ferromagnetic granular materials in an external magnetic field . Professor Hristov supervised 6 PhD theses and more than 25 M.Sc. theses. He obtained a NATO fellowship at the Center for Studies on Risk Technologies (CERTEC), University Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain on accidents with hydrocarbons (Pool fires of hydrocarbons) an served as a visiting professor in the period of January-June, 2002. As a visiting professor, Prof Hristov has developed equipments for studies on field-assisted fluidized beds and particulate materials in University of Seville, Spain (in 2007) and a bio-magnetic laboratory in the University of Northern Fluminense, Campos RJ (in 2009-2010). Non-linear modelling of heat and as transfer problems, approximate analytical solutions of integer-order and fractional diffusion equations is the second area of intensive research in the recent years. In 2010 the application of the integral-balance method to approximate solution of fractional subdiffusion equation was conceived (published in Thermal Science) and consequently applied to various problems involving time-fractional derivatives He published more than 160papers and he obtained more than 1200 citations. Since 2009 Professor Jordan Yankov Hristov is the Editor-in Chief of the International Review of Chemical Engineering-Rapid Communications and since 2012 he become the Editor in Chief of the International Journal on Advanced Materials and Technologies. He was board member of Bio-Magnetic Research and Technology (2002-2008), Thermal Science (since 2004) , Particuology (since 2004) ,Communications to Fractional Calculus (since 2012) and British Journal of Engineering and Technology (since 2012). He is a fellow of the Bulgarian Society of Chemical Engineers, Bulgarian Union of Scientist- Section Mechanics and EFCE. He is the Scientific secretary and the Editor of the Proceedings of the Permanent International Workshop on Transport phenomena in two-phase flows. In 2004, Professor Jordan Hristov received the National ward for high scientific results based on Part1-Part3 of the ongoing Review series “ Magnetic Field assisted Fluidization”, appearing in “Reviews in Chemical Engineering” and now attaining 10 published issues. Also, he got the Special award of Chinese Academy of Sciences for Senior Scientists-2010 and served as a Distinguish visiting professor with the Institute of Process Engineering, Beijing in 2011.

Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research, India

Dr.M.G.Gireeshan (Research Scientist)

M G Gireeshan was born in the village of Cheravally near Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district of Kerala state, India. Gireeshan had his schooling at St. Mary’s School, Kayamkulam and NSS High School, Pullikkanakku. He had his graduation (B Sc electronics ) from IHRD College of Applied Science, Mavelikkara, post-graduation ( MSc Electronics ) from IHRD College of Applied Science, Mallappally and MPhil in Bio-Informatics from Kerala University's Karyavattom campus near Thiruvananthapuram. Gireeshan has been described as “Kerala Edison” by none other than Prof Achuth Shankar S Nair, head, Bio-Informatics Department, Kerala University , for his innovative inventions.

The list of his 157 inventions, ranging from pocket fridge to unmanned railway gate, which is a unique system that he claims could prevent accidents at railway level-crossings that often occur owing to carelessness on the part of those crossing them, is quite remarkable and amazing.Gireeshan's love for electronics began in 2004. He describes himself as an ordinary student. “I was not a bright student in my school days. I actually was not serious about studies those days though I was a keen student of Physics. However, my attitude and approach had changed by the time I was into college”;- says Gireeshan.

His inventions were not spontaneous but had come about when he had sought solutions to various problems that he had encountered in his daily life. Inspited by Automatic Teller Machines, he designed an electronic device for the supply of ration through the Public Distribution Stores. The motivation behind such an attempt was on account of a fraud being perpetrated by the ration shop owner from whom his family bought their monthly ration.Once I went to ration shop to collect the monthly ration of kerosene and sugar. I noticed the shopkeeper marking bought in all columns in the ration card. Even if a customer buys only sugar, his card will show that he had bought all ration items. Here, the ration shopkeeper could make a lot of money as he can sell these items in the black-market. But when I questioned him, he brushed me off as he was clearly irritated. This incident made me think and the electronic device that could check illegal siphoning off of ration supply was born. Gireeshan explains.
